On 9/11, New York City firefighters showed extraordinary courage as first responders, with 343 losing their lives while saving others at the World Trade Center. Each year, moments of silence are observed in the morning at 8:46 a.m., 9:03 a.m., and 10:28 a.m.; marking the times the first tower was struck, the second tower was struck, and the North Tower collapsed, honoring their sacrifice and all who were lost.
Firefighter Vincent G. Halloran lost his life in the line of duty on 9/11, and the city honored his sacrifice by naming an intersection after him. The street sign stands as a daily reminder to the community of his courage and the ultimate price he paid, ensuring that his memory lives on even as life continues around it.
